Frequently Asked Questions
Countertops Questions
How much do new countertops cost in League City?
Fixr's 2026 guide puts most kitchen countertop installs at $1,400 to $5,250, about $3,000 for 35 square feet. HomeGuide lists installed quartz at $50 to $200 per square foot and granite at about $80 to $150 on average. Size, material level, edges and cutouts set the total, and we give a written price after measuring.
What are the three most popular countertops?
Quartz, granite and laminate cover most kitchens, with quartzite and marble chosen for a natural-stone look. In League City, quartz is the most searched countertop material by a wide margin, followed by granite. Laminate costs least but cannot take an undermount sink as easily and wears faster.
How much does 20 feet of granite countertop cost?
Twenty linear feet at a standard 25-inch depth is about 42 square feet. At HomeGuide's average installed granite range of $80 to $150 per square foot, that is roughly $3,300 to $6,300, before upgraded edges, extra cutouts or a backsplash. Entry-level granite can come in lower and exotic slabs higher.
What is the most common countertop thickness?
For kitchen stone and quartz, 3 cm (about 1 1/4 inches) is the most common thickness and usually needs no plywood underlayment. 2 cm (about 3/4 inch) is common on bathroom vanities and is sometimes built up at the edge to look thicker. We will tell you which thicknesses your chosen color comes in.
Can you order countertops online?
You can buy prefabricated vanity tops and some laminate online, but a stone kitchen countertop has to be cut to a template of your actual cabinets, walls and appliances. Walls are rarely perfectly square, so a top cut from a drawing often leaves gaps. That is why we measure and template at your home.
Can I use quartz for an outdoor kitchen?
Most quartz is made for indoor use. Caesarstone says UV rays cause standard quartz to fade and weaken over time, and its outdoor warranty covers only its Outdoor collection. For a League City patio, granite or a UV-stable surface such as Caesarstone Outdoor or Dekton is the safer choice.
How long does countertop replacement take?
Removing old tops and installing new ones is usually done in one day for a typical kitchen. The longer part is the time between templating and install while the slab is cut and polished, which is often one to two weeks depending on the material. We give you the install date when we template.
Quartz Countertops Questions
How much do quartz countertops cost in League City?
National guides put installed quartz at about $50 to $200 per square foot depending on grade, with Angi's average project around $4,500. A 30 to 40 square foot kitchen typically runs $1,500 to $8,000 in HomeGuide's figures. We give a written price after measuring your kitchen.
Is quartz better than granite?
Neither is better across the board. Quartz is non-porous, needs no sealing and gives consistent color; granite handles heat better and every slab is unique. For indoor kitchens both work well; for outdoor kitchens, granite is the better fit.
Can you put a hot pan on quartz?
It is not a good idea. The resin in quartz can scorch or discolor from a pan straight off a burner or out of the oven. Use a trivet or hot pad every time.
Does quartz need to be sealed?
No. Quartz is non-porous, so it does not take a sealer. Daily cleaning with mild soap and water is enough; avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive pads.
Will a quartz countertop have seams?
Most L-shaped and U-shaped kitchens need at least one. We plan seam locations on the layout before cutting, keep them away from sinks and cooktops where possible, and match the pattern across the joint.
Granite Countertops Questions
How much does granite cost per square foot installed?
HomeGuide's figures average $80 to $150 per square foot installed, from about $50 for level 1 stone to $250 or more for exotic slabs. An average 30 to 40 square foot kitchen runs about $2,400 to $6,000. Your written quote is based on the slab you choose.
How much does 20 feet of granite countertop cost?
Twenty linear feet at a standard 25-inch depth is about 42 square feet, or roughly $3,300 to $6,300 at the $80 to $150 average range. Edges, extra cutouts and a backsplash are added on top.
How often does granite need to be sealed?
It depends on the stone. Dense, dark granites may go years between sealings, while lighter, more porous stones may need it every year or so. If water darkens the stone within a few minutes, it is time to reseal.
Is granite good for an outdoor kitchen in League City?
Yes. Granite tolerates direct sun and rain far better than indoor quartz. Dark polished granite can get hot in summer sun, so a lighter color or honed finish is worth considering for uncovered counters.
Kitchen Countertop Replacement Questions
Can new countertops go on my existing cabinets?
Usually, as long as the cabinets are solid, dry and can be leveled. We check for water damage under the sink and sagging runs before templating, and tell you if anything should be repaired first.
How long will my kitchen be out of service?
For a standard kitchen, removal and installation usually happen on one day. The old counters stay in use until install day, and the sink is out of service only while the new tops are set and reconnected.
Do I need a new sink when I replace countertops?
Not always, but many people switch to an undermount sink when moving to stone or quartz. Whichever sink you choose has to be on hand or specified before templating so the cutout fits.
Will replacing countertops damage my backsplash?
A full tile backsplash can lose its bottom row when the old counter is pulled. If you plan to keep the tile, we discuss how the counter will come off; many people replace the backsplash at the same time.
Bathroom Vanity Tops Questions
How much does a new bathroom vanity top cost?
It depends on size and material. HomeGuide lists a standard 20 by 36 inch marble vanity top at $200 to $750, and HomeAdvisor lists quartz at $50 to $200 per square foot. We give a written price after measuring.
Can I replace just the vanity top and keep my cabinet?
Yes, if the cabinet is solid and dry. We check for soft spots or water damage around the plumbing before setting a new top.
Is marble a good choice for a bathroom vanity?
It works better in a bathroom than in a kitchen because it sees less acid and wear. Perfume and some cleaners can still etch polished marble, so a honed finish or quartz is worth considering if that bothers you.
What thickness should a vanity top be?
2 cm is common for bathroom vanities and keeps cost down; 3 cm gives a heavier look and is often used in primary bathrooms. Both work on standard vanity cabinets.
Quartzite & Marble Countertops Questions
Is quartzite the same as quartz?
No. Quartzite is a natural stone quarried in slabs; quartz countertops are engineered from crushed quartz and resin. Quartzite needs sealing; engineered quartz does not.
Does marble etch even when sealed?
Yes. Sealer slows staining, but acids react with the calcium in marble and leave dull marks regardless. A honed finish makes etching less noticeable.
How often does quartzite need sealing?
HomeGuide recommends once a year. A quick check is to leave a few drops of water on the surface; if it darkens within minutes, reseal.
Which costs more, quartzite or marble?
Ranges overlap. HomeGuide lists quartzite at $65 to $150 installed and marble at $40 to $150, but premium marbles like Calacatta run much higher. The specific slab matters more than the category.
Outdoor Kitchen Countertops Questions
Can quartz countertops be used outside?
Standard quartz is not recommended outdoors. Caesarstone says UV rays cause most quartz to fade and weaken, and its outdoor warranty covers only its Outdoor collection. Choose an outdoor-rated product or another material.
What is the best countertop for an outdoor kitchen in League City?
Granite is the most common choice because it tolerates sun and rain and is widely available. Sintered stone like Dekton and outdoor-rated quartz are UV-stable options with a more uniform look.
How much do outdoor kitchen countertops cost?
HomeGuide lists outdoor granite at $80 to $150 per square foot installed, concrete at $50 to $150 and stainless steel at $80 to $200. The total depends on size, cutouts and the material you choose.
Does salt air damage stone countertops?
Salt film is mostly a cleaning issue. Rinse the counter with fresh water now and then, and keep natural stone sealed so salt water does not soak in.
